Why did you decide to volunteer with Awaiting Angels in Peru?

There were a few reasons I chose Awaiting Angels. After researching several programs, this one seemed to have the most freedom and allowed me the most independence while still maintaining structure. I figured I would get the most out of this experience and have the most hands on experience as possible.

Describe your day to day activities as a volunteer.

Day to day once I got in my routine during the week I would walk to the bus stop and take a bus to work to arrive at 8 AM, and I would get a one hour lunch break and stay at the clinic until 4 PM, sometimes 5 PM if it was really busy. I was placed in many different parts of the clinic including vaccinations for kids, administering medicine to kids, working with cleaning and sewing wounds, taking vitals, etc. I was able to experience a little bit of everything.

How has this experience helped you grow personally and professionally?

This experience definitely gave me the confidence that I needed to secure my decision to pursue a career in the medical field. I love this sort of setting, and I am hoping to one day return to the clinic I worked at and be able to provide more help. I had such a positive experience while volunteering in this clinic, and know that this experience will shape my future and has impacted my entire view of the medical field.
