Why did you decide to volunteer abroad with GVI in Vanuatu?

Luke: I chose GVI because they had a project that sounded really hands on and fun for a good price.

Describe your day to day activities as a volunteer.

Luke: Get woken up at 7ish have breakfast, if it was our day for turtle beach then we would leave after breakfast. If not, we could do just about anything - we could snorkel or play with the kids I helped out some of the locals with their jobs some days as well. Lunch at 12, then again do what you want for the afternoon then dinner at 6 and if it was our night for turtle beach then go up there. Going to turtle beach includes a 45 minute walk to the beach and hour and a half walk up and back (longer if you see a turtle) then 45 minutes back. Every day was different though because we had activities planned and some people would have different plans then others, but most of the time we worked as a group.

How has this experience impacted your future?

Luke: Getting to work in with community as well as live in it was very special. This experience confirmed for me my love of animals and conservation and showed me that I really do enjoy this line of work. It also gave me a look at life from another cultures point of view.
