Why did you decide to study abroad with USAC in New Zealand?
Amanda: When I was first getting serious about studying abroad, I knew that I wanted to study in New Zealand. And I knew that I wanted to study in Wellington thanks to a previous visit to the city that made me fall in love with it. So when I was looking through the study abroad program options offered through my university, I was keeping an eye out for New Zealand programs that included the option to study in Wellington. USAC was the only one I found that offered study in Wellington, so it was the clear choice for me.
What made studying abroad a unique and special experience?
Amanda: Every study abroad experience can be unique and special if you make it so. For me, it wasn't just about going to school in another country. It was about using my study abroad experience to truly explore my surroundings and experience the country of New Zealand. I had so much fun and made so many great memories in New Zealand, simply because I went in with the goal of taking advantage of every opportunity and living each day abroad to the fullest.
How has this experience impacted your future?
Amanda: Studying abroad made me realize just how much I love to travel -- and how much I love New Zealand. Living in a place like New Zealand (laid-back, beautiful, welcoming) also made me aware of how I want to live my life, no matter where I am in the world. In the U.S., so much emphasis is placed on working until you drop and making money. But it's different in New Zealand. Living there made me realize that there are more important things in life than money and a 60-hour work week. My attitude on a lot of things changed after I returned to the U.S. from NZ. And I think that change has been for the better.
