What is your favorite travel memory?
I love road trips, and one of my most unforgettable adventures was hitchhiking from Nairobi all the way to DRC Congo. Meeting new people along the way was incredible, but the funniest moment was when I had to sell my watch and Crocs just to cover the bus fare to my next destination. Traveling across Africa has always been my dream, tasting different foods, experiencing diverse cultures, and sharing life with strangers who quickly felt like family. In Ethiopia, I once shared a single plate of food with ten people, and everywhere I visited, I was welcomed with coffee. On one memorable day, I had at least ten cups because I simply couldn’t say no to the warm hospitality of every household I entered.
How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?
It has been five years since i worked here, actually this month marks five years. I have met so many people, learnt new cultures especially from your Europe where most of our volunteers come from. with the experience they have from different educational background has greatly made me improve on my ways of presentations when am doing my sessions.
What is the best story you've heard from a return student?
Considering the background and economic needs of the people we serve, many of our volunteers are often amazed at how locals carry smiles on their faces despite the challenges they face. Wherever they go, they are warmly welcomed, offered meals, embraced into homes, and drawn into conversations. Even with language barriers, the eagerness to connect and share stories remains strong, proving that kindness and humanity speak louder than words.
If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?
This is quite a tricky one, ha-ha.. people have different interest but we occasionally advice for flexibility. i would be biased in this case because I mostly do life skill and wellness sessions, i would definitely say Join the Yump Program which handles the life skill session, YUMP simply means The Youth Unleashed mentorship Program. My responsibility is to try and understand our Youths and their challenges as we build up a possible solution with them, this can't happen without a global mindset.
What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?
With us, every new member steps into an open, blank canvas and free to create, explore, and grow. The beauty is that you can paint your own journey while still aligning with our shared commitment to serving the community. I’ve seen volunteers discover their career paths here, uncover their purpose, and, in the process, find true happiness.
What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?
Tricky one, but yeah for a successful company it all breaks down to communication, flexibility, trust and understanding each teammates weakness. the weakness is the most valuable part for me considering we are all gifted differently. when I know the weak point of my team member it helps me appreciate what am not able to do and my team member is able.
