Why is language learning and cultural immersion important to you?
Matt: The two are inseparable. The more you learn about one, the more you discover of the other, and both allow you to understand a people’s way of thinking.
Describe a time when you felt especially proud to be part of the Intercultura team.
Matt: I’ve never been happier or more satisfied at a place of work. One memory that comes to mind – it’s kind of silly really – is when a former student of mine came back to the school for a visit and told me that she was going to law school. A long time ago, I had told her she’d make an excellent lawyer. Apparently, because of that one comment, she decided to study law.
It made me feel like I really made a difference in her life.
What position do you hold at Intercultura? What has been your career path so far?
Matt: Academic Development Coordinator. Career path so far? Meaning before or at Intercultura? Before, I thought I would be a filmmaker. Then, teaching English was just temporary. At Intercultura I learned to love teaching, and now am fortunate in that I get to help make our program a better experience for teachers and students alike.
What unique qualities does your company possess?
Matt: I believe Intercultura is as much a family as it is a business.
