Job Description

Scope of operation: Early Bird Safaris shall focus on full packages that cover all parks and tourist destinations in Uganda. The effort of the volunteer will support a team of people with experience in handling safaris and tours in Uganda. We envision becoming one of the most reputable and well established safari companies in Uganda.
Primary placement objective: To market Tourism services and develop tourism products, packages, services and facilities.
Roles: To put in place a mechanism for a functioning travel and safaris services.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a tourism officer, you'll need to:
• Develop, produce and commission tourist information, including art work, and write press releases and copy for tourism guides and newsletters
• Set up and attend exhibitions and holiday shows
• Devise and plan tours and arrange itineraries for tourists
• Liaise with local operators, the media, designers and printers
• Manage staff, budgets and staff training needs
• Provide funding and business advice and send e-newsletters to local businesses
• Develop e-tourism platforms, including websites, and construct business databases
• Plan and write funding applications
• Work on product development
• Undertake market research with members of the public and visitors to particular attractions
• Carry out strategic planning and development, such as commissioning and/or producing tourism strategies and economic impact studies for implementation, or lobbying, devising and implementing marketing campaigns.
Job location: Dedicated to excellence in destination management, the team at Early Bird Safaris volunteers shall operate from our offices at the bottom of Mount Rwenzori in the heart of Kasese Town.
What to expect
• The work is usually office based, but may involve work outside and at different locations during the working days.
• The tourism officer function shall more likely to be part of handle issues of economic development, considering the fact that it is business focused.
• Setting up communication and marketing tools will be demanding.
• Invitations of tourism groups and individuals will be an attraction of working in this industry.
• Developing the tour services into a Travel and Tours company is envisioned in the broader objectives Early Bird Safaris Services.

Work experience
Having relevant work experience through a work placement, internship, holiday work, volunteering or casual work is vital is enough for someone to fill this position.
The volunteer placement benefit:
The placement will give the volunteer opportunity to Share Skills and Experience in Building Capacities, with the disadvantaged persons in and less privileged communities of Kasese District
The volunteer will work to strengthen the organisation and act as an advisor to improve resource mobilisation for economic development. He/she will work closely with the top management team of Early Bird Safaris Ltd, and get exposed to community participatory development skills

Volunteer Accommodation
According to Early Bird Safaris Ltd requirements the volunteer will have a room with bathroom. A regular western style toilet although the volunteer may be required to share a house and kitchen another volunteer.

Furniture: Basic furniture consists of a bed, chairs and a table. It is the employer's responsibility to provide this basic furniture.

Cooking: A cooking gas stove will be provided by the employer.

Food: Kasese District is known for its agricultural produce, vegetables, fish and animals, therefore the volunteer will have a variety of choice for meals. The Intern can easily access fresh food either from the local market or supermarket.
