About Program

Join the Spanglish Colombia family! Immerse yourself in the local culture and learn Spanish in Jericó, a beautiful small town just 2.5 hours from Medellín. Help us with various tasks at our school, such as marketing and social media, permaculture gardening, cleaning, or teaching English or yoga.

The school program is designed by weeks starting every Monday, so volunteers should arrive on Sunday to settle in. You can arrive days earlier and stay with us at a hostel until Sunday to start your week as a volunteer. Volunteers will be in a shared dorm with bunk beds. The day will begin with an optional yoga/exercise/meditation class, followed by breakfast at 8:30. The Spanish class is 2 hours from 9:00 am to 11 am or 11 am to 1 pm.

According to your lessons, we will schedule you 3 volunteer hours each day (15 per week). We prefer your volunteer hours to be completed by 3 pm so you can enjoy nature and the town. The days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Amazing

I spent 4 weeks at spanglish at the start of 2024. The only regret I had was not staying longer. It was fun, a good price and gave me an incredible basis in Spanish which I have been able to utilise very well. Saying that, I have been told that when I speak spanish, I now speak in a colombian accent. Spanglish is an amazing start for any travellers. I recommend it to anyone travelling to colombia. There are many opportunities for hiking, the town near by is small but beautiful and packed with things to do. The food is also spectacular. Everyone at the hostel is so kind and accommodating and (Ji)Raffa is an amazing teacher.

Rafa’s adaptive approach

Rafa at Splanglish Columbia offers an exceptional language learning experience that is both personal and enriching. His willingness to adapt to my learning curve made each lesson highly effective and enjoyable. The warmth extended by his mother, who not only cooked but also shared allowed us to cook her meals with her really added a unique, homey touch to the experience. Rafa's periodic check-ins, even after my sessions ended, showed his genuine care and commitment to my progress, making the impact of his teaching last well beyond the classroom. Everything about my time here made it the perfect experience. I can’t recommend it enough!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take advantage of the wonderful people living in the town! They are warm hearted and caring. We can all learn something wonderful from the beautiful people in Jerico!

Spanglish

Spanglish school way the best way to start my trip in South America. It gave me a solid base on Spanish, contacts to travel with later on and lots of Memories with the family, the dogs and the other student. Rafa is a very good Spanish teacher who takes his time whilst teaching to explain to everyone, the school adapts to the level of every student which is great. The mother Olga is lovely and only speaks Spanish which is great for practicing! I loved my time there and hope to go back one day.
