Mbalule Julian

Job Title
Social Worker
I am a university graduate who pursued a bachelor's degree in social work.
I registered the African Child Organization to serve underserved communities.

What is your favorite travel memory?

The experience is a total culture shock for those who haven’t been to a developing country before but you will never forget the people or places you experienced there. There are also a lot of fun things to do, like white water rafting. The area offers one of the best places in the world to go rafting, it really was the best thing I have ever done.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

The volunteer program has been evolving with the organization putting in a lot of effort to meet the expectations of volunteers.
With the feedback from volunteers. Changes are made here and there to meet the volunteers' expectations. The staff also benchmarked in different organizations hosting volunteers to make relevant adjustments.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

A student who volunteered last year forwarded this to our email: My experience was really good, the staff at the African Child organization were really supportive at every stage of my trip, escorting me around the area until I felt comfortable, introducing me to different organizations, and phoning me on a regular basis to ensure I was okay.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Classroom teaching in local schools. As a social worker, I am interested in closing gaps where needed. Ugandan schools are often understaffed and poorly supplied, but you can help to improve this situation by volunteering. You can gain work experience teaching at primary or secondary schools overseas and no formal teaching qualification is required. Whether you want to volunteer abroad by teaching during your gap year, career break, or vacation you will have a role to play and your efforts will be greatly appreciated.

The impact you have on the lives of your students will be obvious and long-lasting, but you will also be part of a much wider international volunteer network, which is making a positive contribution to the communities in Uganda. The purpose of this project is to promote quality education in rural schools to achieve quality education output. Subjects to be taught will include; Mathematics, Writing, Drawing, English, French and German, Literature, Science, Music, Art, and Craft. Your encouragement, praise, and creative lessons are often all that are needed to spark an interest in the language and a desire to learn more. Our friendly Ugandan teaching colleagues act as supervisors and ensure that you feel happy with your classes. They will generally have a good command of the English language themselves which will make your life that much easier! Many other extra-curricular subjects are always welcome additions to the curriculum in most of our placements. Provided you can offer the basic provision of conversational English lessons, our partner schools are eager to let you develop the children’s interests in other areas as well.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

The service delivery of the team to the volunteers is very professional, the volunteers get a meaningful hands-on experience and the very best of their fees. While inspecting different projects supported by the organization. I was very proud of the team last year for the tremendous work exhibited in the volunteer program

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

The biggest factor in the success of our team is commitment, hard work, and prayer. The team is committed to the African child organization's cause. The organization works with various organizations hosting volunteers where knowledge is shared to make relevant changes to meet the international standards expected by volunteers this has been a key success point.
