Yes, I recommend this program

Unforgettable Experience

I had a fantastic time working for six months on an internship with AFAWI. I learnt a great deal about grassroots development in my time here. My key responsibility was data collection, but I was invited to participate in a range of projects that AFAWI had running at the time including Microfinance and a project targeting orphaned and vulnerable children. I was given a reasonable level of autonomy in my work and was awarded the support of the organisation to initiate two independent projects that are still being sustained by the dedicated staff and subsequent volunteers a year after my placement expired. I lived with two different host families during my stay in Ghana and was welcomed by both and treated as one of their own. Being immersed in Ghanaian culture in this way was hugely valuable to me and a humbling experience I will never forget. I strongly recommend this project to people passionate about grassroots development and interested in the Ghanaian way of life. AFAWI is a dedicated organisation that is seeking to empower local vulnerable people and offers a valuable insight into the real challenges faced by many local NGO's. Ghana is a beautiful country with a lot to offer the world and I am so happy to have experienced it. I am hugely grateful for the opportunities AFAWI awarded me during my placement and I am still gushing at the memories a year on and expect I will be for many more to come!
