Associazione Culturale "Why Not?"

We are a group of young, energetic, motivated professionals running a summer language camp in Orsago, a small rural village one hour north of Venice, Italy.

Since starting in 2013, we have expanded and decided to build something bigger and more ambitious. For that purpose we founded Associazione culturale “Why Not?, a nonprofit organization with the mission of creating a bridge between local and global, by giving people the means to read and understand the world.

Our "core activity" is welcoming young people from foreign countries into our community to teach English at our summer camps, thus giving kids the main tool to expand their interests outside of their country – a lingua franca.

As we grow, we are coming up with more and more ways to fulfill our mission: non-conventional language courses for adults, cultural entertainment and events for our community, and so on.

Yes, I recommend this program

Two weeks in the life of an Italian.. kind of

I am quite well travelled and have taught English in a number of countries, but teaching in Orsago was a whole different experience. It allowed to me to see the real Italy - not just the tourist locations or a nice hotel in an expensive town. I got to live with a real family, experience real Italian culture and teach a bunch of amazing kids.

Some of the highlights included the hilarious attempts at dinner conversations with my host family who spoke minimal English (and me with my non-existent Italian), feeling like I was on a movie as I rode my bike down country roads and everyone I passed yelling Ciao and waving, playing tennis behind this tiny church and being surrounded by mountains, and of course, trying to get a group of 7 year olds to follow instructions that they don't understand!

Oh and the Prosecco! Definitely one of the perks of teaching in Orsago, is that you are surrounded by Prosecco, and if you're as lucky as I was, you're host family will have their own vineyard!

What would you improve about this program?
The more native English speakers the better!
