COPROT Tortugas de Osa

COPROT Tortugas de Osa

Why choose COPROT Tortugas de Osa?

We are a community driven sea turtle conservation project working on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Our beaches are home to over 7,000 sea turtle nests each year. We patrol the beaches to monitor and protect the turtles.

Our mission is to be as sustainable as possible, we work on permaculture, plastic upcycling, reforestation and have a deep education and outreach program to connect with both the local and international community.

Our jungle home allows our team to be in the heart of one of the most biodiverse places on earth.

Coprot

This project involves conservation of sea turtles which is something that everyone that have the opportunity should do!

COPROT is focussed in the Olive Ridley sea turtle but most specifically in the Green sea turtle, an endangered specific in the Pacific Ocean that goes to lay her eggs in those beaches.

Not only that, but that amazing conservation project also involves the community in Carate, which has an extremely important role in the conservation of the Peninsula being the ones who live and love the nature there.

COPROT

COPROT is an amazing project that works not only with sea turtles but also with the community inside the Osa Peninsula, and which is essential if we really want to conservate nature and wildlife!
It amazing for children, teenagers, adults, and everyone in between! Flr sure if you want an amazing live changing experience I will recommend this adventure. You would live with more people in a "jungle camp" with great facilities, which will give you the opportunity to meet new people and learn about more cultures as well.

COPROT Review

One of the biggest surprises of my life. A very good convivial ambiance, i met a lot of extraordinary people which became friends for a lifetime. I learned so much, about the turtle’s conservation, community life in the jungle, it’s a amazing human experience. During a day, so many things can happen : you can do morning patrol and see babies turtles, then eat a good lunch around a big table with all the members of the camp, the afternoon leave for a jungle walk, in the evening admire a beautiful sunset on the beach and at night watch a movie or play games.
A great place to stay for discover Costa Rica.

Pros
  • Ambiance and people
  • Beautiful landscapes and animals very close to the camp
Cons
  • Rain season

Experience review

Living in COPROT, in this unique place surrounded by jungle teeming with life, is truly an incredible experience! You learn a lot about turtles and their conservation but also about community life and the various expansion projects of an NGO (education, sustainability/ecology). You meet people who become friends and every day is an adventure! I highly recommend anyone looking for an adventure to come and give a hand to this great organization that fights for the protection of sea turtles, it's really worth it!

Amazing project

This project is much more than just turtles, you leave knowing so much about sustainability, current environmental issues, and community work to give you a really fulfilling and well-rounded experience. The team is really open, welcoming and knowledgeable, making you interested in the nature surrounding the camp and the work the project is doing. Amazing location, very wild and lots of wildlife, got to see squirrel monkeys, toucans, and a sloth from the kitchen! The turtle work is also amazing, we got to see female olive ridley and green turtles laying eggs and lots of baby turtles! 10/10 would recommend!
