Desert Arts

The Desert Arts Research Centre is dedicated to uplifting and improving the lives of the Kalbelia and other nomad community in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan. The Kalbelia (nomads or gypsies) community is economically, socially and educational on the margins of the society. The Desert Arts Research Centre has undertaken a unique project to promote and preserve the Kalbelia culture and at the same time uplift them economically, socially and educational so that not only their culture can be kept alive but also make them self-reliant.

The Desert Arts Research Centre is fortunate that many foreign volunteers have visited the centre and worked with the children of this nomadic community. The centre welcomes any person interested to work and uplift this under-privileged community.
