Dunkeld Country & Equestrian Estate

It all started when I saw a Facebook arial video of the most magnificent place I'd  ever seen ! At first I just scrolled past the post because I didn't for one moment think that this piece of lush green horse heaven was in South Africa . After the temptation just got to big  , I had to return to the post and investigate . This picture perfect landscape that I instantly fell in love with was not only in South Africa but perfectly located in the picturesque  Dullstroom countryside .

After sharing the above mentioned information with my parents they agreed that we could go and have a look . I then contacted Carla Gerdes the equestrian manager at Dunkeld to arrange a meeting . When we got there we were welcomed with open arms and shown around the facilities  . I left that day knowing that I had to return  !

The big day finally dawned and I arrived with my huge suitcase and settled in to my comfy accommodation .

In summary the six weeks were packed with educational and recreational activities .

My favourites were daily interaction with all the beautiful sport horses stabled at Dunkeld. Riding and schooling some of the horses and going on advanced outrides in the scenic countryside , safaris to Humala and the Kruger National Park . Being able to make a contribution to the learning centre by donating time , books , stationery and sporting equipment collected with the help of friend's , family and my old school.

It was truly a privilege to meet and befriend the friendly and efficient staff . Carla and Wade at the equestrian centre are true horse lovers and enjoy sharing their knowledge and experience in taking care and riding these magnificent animals .

Despite being very active and working hard at times I still managed to put on a few kilograms . I blame this on the delicious meals  served at Dunkeld and the gourmet milkshakes enjoyed in town !

I will always treasure the memories of my all to brief time spent here and can unreservedly recommend the experience to others .
