Kululeku

Why choose Kululeku?

Kululeku is an NGO that uses donations, sponsorships and volunteers to empower the local community, facilitate education and alleviate the country’s social ills.

In addition to the development assistance provided by our volunteers, we collect donations through social crowdfunding and provide sponsorships for needy children and families, where every penny arrives. Thanks to African foundations and international companies, but above all thanks to our volunteers, we can support our partner school in several projects.

The place of birth determines under which conditions we grow up. Through many trips to African countries, Vanessa and Jan got to know and love the people. The Mozambicans are so gracious and friendly people that we decided to make our contribution here by establishing kululeku (freedom in Xitswa – the local language in Vilanculos) to at least minimize the prevailing poverty, the ailing education system and the injustices of the various classes. We are convinced that we are

keep up the good work! program with great social impact and heart warming people

Hi there, I just come back from my volunteer program with kululeku. I volunteered for 2 month and I wish I could have stayed longer. Vado and his team go out of their way to help you wherever they can.
house:
Liz, the maid prepares super food, the house is clean with enough space and it is located in the middle of Vilanculos between locals, far away from the touristy luxury hotel chains. You can find everything by food - the backpacker, local restaurants, bars, the market, diving, the beach... It is a safe area and everyone welcomes you there as a member of kululeku.
school and construction:
I took part in the construction of an elder people home and later on I was teaching english. Every helping hand is welcome in both projects and it is 100% ok if your english is not 100% correct. The kids love to spend time with you.

I did 2 trips to Tofo for the weekend, it´s a laidback town to relax and to see whale sharks.

It total Mozambique has everything to offer (Dolhins, whales, coral reefs, deserted beaches, friendly people, breath taking nature and pure Africa) I was working in South Africa before and Moz is so much more natural and pure. Please ingnore what you hear about Moz, it is definately worth to travel and help here, especially with this organization.

I can highly recommend and I wanna Thank kululeku for the best volunteering experience I have made in the last 6 years. I will come again.

Also the price is so extremely reasonable for what you get.

Happy and successful weeks

Hey together!
I stayed for six weeks with kululeku in mozambique. It was a great time! This experience was suggested to me by a good friend of mine who took also part there himself some months before. The region and the people are simply great. Everybody is friendly and cooperatively. It makes realy fun to join time at this place. The most time as the most of the other volunteers did I was working in a local school teaching english and helping everywhere an useful hand was needed. The kids there are really cute and thankful for every support they get. And there is a lot to do. The children told me how much better the school day is for them since kululeku started to support this school. For example they got a new fountain for fresh water, new tables, chairs and books. And there are many other projects in work by kululeku.
In the other time I enjoyed the awesome landscape going swimming, diving, biking, etc. I also have to say that not only the stuff from kululeku and the locals are really nice the other volunteers have been great, too. Mostly in the evening we used to eat together and talked about our day and experiences. And all us are thinking about coming back again to see how it looks here in future.

Familiar and sincere project - most beautiful place

I spend almost 3 months in Vilanculos teaching English in the school. For me it was the best experience ever! Honestly, at the beginning I was a little concerned going with an unknown and small NGO because I hardly knew what to expect. I volunteered in Ghana before, so I knew Africa. At the end, I would only go with familiar organizations and definately with kululeku again. They is lots of humanity and the staff really cares about you and you can built up friendships with the locals because it´s not overloaded and you are not one of 1000. So, what can I say... The community is really friendly and welcomes you from the first day. All projects are thoughtful and every penny arrives. The founders of kululeku let you be part of the organization and explain you everything. The house is absolutely modern, newly built, clean, safe. It´s located in the middle of the village, which is nice because you feel like being a part of the community. It´s kind of a busy place because everyone knows everyone and the nighbors get fresh water out of the pump at kululeku house. Vado, Jeff and Jill go out of there way to make your stay unforgettable. I will definately stay in touch with them and visit them again.

The school is about 10 km outside. Vilanculos is kind of a big village, with lots of really nice hotels and you don´t see as much poverty. But the farer you drive outside, the poorer it becomes. The kids at the school are just soooo greatful when you´re there. They are respectful, thanksful to learn, happy about every gesture or present. It´s just no comparison to our school system in Germany. Words can´t explain, so I´d say go there and find out. What I can promise is, that you won´t regeret!

I have travelled a lot during my studies, and everything said on the internet about Mozambique is just soooooo wrong! It´s one of the most beautiful places in the world and the people are friendly and helpful.
