We want to reduce the number of street children in Mbale, Uganda. Instead of only helping the children from where they are, we want to work at the root of the problem to prevent children from ending up on the streets at all.

We have a family center that includes a social department and a school; nursery- and primary school. We are aiming to work with the underprivileged families in the slum areas. We have over 1000 parents, mostly women, in saving groups. The groups also have workshops on how to improve/start up businesses, how to better save and prioritize money, about HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, the importance of education, health and hygiene and much more.
In addition to the saving groups and workshops, the social department also provides counseling services and regular home visits to the school children. To be more sustainable we bought a plot where we grow our own food that is consumed at the school.
