Mountain Environments Research Institute

The mission of the Mountain Environments Research Institute is to develop a collaborative interdisciplinary mountain research and education community, fostering effective mountain stewardship and sustainable livelihoods, and creating successive generations of skilled mountain researchers in order to:
● Increase understanding and functioning of mountain environments through student education and research, and by promoting development of a diverse and collaborative research community.
● Produce experienced graduates who are work-ready in mountain science and resource-management careers.
● Broaden public awareness of the fragility of mountain ecosystems by disseminating knowledge.
● Work towards conservation and community development goals by bringing together people with diverse backgrounds to study, learn, and serve their communities in mountain regions.
● Bridge experience gaps in safety, logistics, and outdoor leadership.
