unforgettable experience

Hello future participants,

I was volunteering in a school in Phayao for 2 weeks and I can guarantee that it was one the best experience in my trip in Thailand. Being with local Thai people, learning from them, sharing experiences and having a privilege to be able to teach beautiful children was a very special and unique adventure for me. Children and students are incredibly friendly and they made me feel at home. The homemade food was delicious too and I also had a chance to learn some Thai cooking and hang out with local people. Just incredible! I loved every single day and I am sure I will be back some time. I highly recommend to live this adventure. By the way, Hani also is the kindnest and most helpful person as well.

You will not regret!

Volunteering with PEFF – A Truly Meaningful Experience

I had the opportunity to volunteer with the PEFF program, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed by a warm and passionate community dedicated to making a real difference.

The program strikes a beautiful balance between education, culture, and sustainability. Volunteers support local schools, help improve English communication for students, and engage in meaningful cultural exchange. The educational sessions are well-structured, yet flexible enough to allow creativity and connection with students of all ages.

What makes PEFF stand out is its integration with local farming and sustainable living practices. You’re not just teaching—you’re learning, too. Whether it's planting rice, helping in the garden, or participating in community events, everything feels deeply rooted in respect and shared purpose.

Phayao itself is a peaceful and stunning province, far from the tourist crowds. It's the perfect setting for those looking to give back while experiencing the slower, more authentic rhythm of Thai life.

If you're looking for a volunteer program that combines education, community, and sustainability in a genuine way, PEFF is an amazing choice.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
One thing every future participant should know about the PEFF program is that flexibility and an open mind are key. Life in Phayao is slower and more relaxed than in big cities, and things don’t always go exactly as planned—which is part of the beauty. Embracing the unexpected, being patient, and showing genuine interest in the local culture will help you get the most out of the experience. Come ready to learn, adapt, and truly connect—you’ll gain much more than you give.
Pros
  • Authentic cultural immersion
  • Supportive and caring people
  • Balanced experience
Cons
  • Rural location
  • It can be very hot here (if not used to it)
  • Unpredictable schedules
