Do you get to choose the department you will be placed in?

It says "unique department/hospital placement" and then " Core specialties: surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN" so does this mean if you are more interested in surgery you will be able to choose that over the others? Or are you placed randomly?

When i went last year, we could give a rough idea of which placements we would like to be allocated. They could not give us a guarantee of the placements, however they do their best to try. Usually, your first choice placement will be given to you
Yes, you choose which department you will be in each week of your placement. For example, I chose paediatrics for my first week and then obs/gynae for my second week. However, if you don't know which department you would like to go in you will be allocated randomly.
I would not advise doing the same dept. for more than one week because it can get repetitive.
