There’s so much to see and explore; from the fascinating Kisumu Museum to the serene Impala Park, the breathtaking sunsets at Hippo Point, the calm of Ndere Island, and the vibrant life around Dunga Beach and Hill Camp. These experiences made my stay not just meaningful but truly unforgettable. It’s a place where every moment feels alive with purpose, connection, and discovery. I leave carrying priceless memories, new perspectives, and deep gratitude for the people who welcomed me so openly into their lives.

Even more inspiring was watching them map out new business plans with so much hope for their families.

Beyond the work, the community here is wonderfully welcoming, always eager to share stories, smiles, and local culture. There are countless beautiful places to explore after work — vibrant markets, peaceful lake views, and warm evening gatherings that make every day feel special.

I was also lucky to go on a Safari to the Maasai Mara, organized by the team, and was absolutely thrilled to see the Big Five animals up close. It was a dream come true, layered on top of an experience that was already life-changing.

It’s grassroots empowerment at its very best, surrounded by genuine community, natural wonders, and moments that will stay etched in my heart forever.

I had the privilege of volunteering with this incredible organization, empowering HIV-positive women to run their own fashion businesses. The women are welcoming and resilient, always smiling despite their challenges. I’ve volunteered multiple times, the last being in 2018. I worked closely with them, assisting with fabric cutting and basic business skills. Their warmth and hospitality are something I deeply miss in Canada.
