We are a group of 18 girls from Canada who had the incredible opportunity to spend one month in Mzuzu, Malawi, volunteering with HYCF through a Law and Advocacy internship and it was truly life-changing.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by our amazing host, David, who made us feel safe, supported, and completely at home. His kindness, patience, and attention to every detail made such a difference throughout our stay.
Our internship was led by Christon Ghambi, an inspiring and knowledgeable supervisor who guided us every step of the way. With his support, we learned so much about Malawi’s legal system, human rights challenges, and the power of grassroots advocacy. We had the chance to attend court sessions, participate in legal outreach programs, and engage with community members on important topics like gender equality and child protection.
Beyond the professional experience, we were immersed in a beautiful and welcoming culture. We built real friendships, learned from one another, and grew both personally and professionally. It wasn’t just an internship it was a journey of connection, growth, and purpose.
If you’re passionate about justice, human rights, or simply want to make a difference while learning in a global setting, we can’t recommend this internship enough. Malawi left a mark on our hearts, and we’re so grateful for every moment.
With love from Mzuzu, The Canadian Girls, HYCF Law & Advocacy Internship Team
