Learn Chinese in Kunming with Lenstalk

I had a great experience learning Chinese for 2 weeks with Lenstalk in Kunming. From day one the whole team was very friendly and accomodating to my needs. The course was customized to my level and my learning objectives and everyone was happy to help me with not only my Chinese but anything else I wanted to do in Kunming. The location of the school is very convenient being in the centre of the city on Nanping Jie and the school itself is clean and spacious with good facilities. Highly recommend this school to anyone considering learning Chinese in Kunming.

Have fun whilst learn Chinese

I spent a week learning Chinese daily at LensTalk. I was impressed by how quickly I could progress over the week. We went on field trips to the market and went sightseeing, on top of classroom learning when my teacher and I covered new vocabulary and sentence structures.

The variety made it really enjoyable and interesting but also made it more immersive. My teacher was so kind and caring and we spent much of our classes laughing whilst learning!

I highly recommend coming to Kunming and LensTalk or learning online with them.

Highly recommended for foreign learners

We are an older couple from Australia wanting to learn, improve and practice our Mandarin Chinese in China. We spent a week, 4 hours a day with Lens Talk in one on one lessons. Our focus was on learning how to speak and interact practically in travel situations. The mornings were spent in the classroom, and the afternoons were spent in outside activities such as going to the market, shops and Cui Hu park.

We found the experience very helpful, as it combined classroom learning with practical situations. The tutors were also very friendly and encouraging.

Kunming is also an excellent city to learn and practice, as the locals are friendly and relaxed.

Overall, we highly recommend Lens Talk in Kunming.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go with the flow.
Pros
  • Location

A Flexible and Meaningful Chinese Learning Experience for Our Family

We joined the Lens Talk Family Camp with our two children during our trip to China, and it was a wonderful way for our family to experience Chinese language and culture together.

Before coming to China, we were a little concerned about how our children would adapt to a new environment and how we would manage communication in daily life. The Lens Talk team helped make the experience much easier and more enjoyable for our whole family.

What we liked most about the program was its flexibility and personalized approach. The team took the time to understand our children’s Chinese level, interests, and our family’s preferences, then adjusted the lessons, activities, and schedule accordingly. It felt much more like a program designed for our family rather than a fixed package.

Our children enjoyed learning Chinese through a combination of lessons, cultural activities, and real-life experiences. They were able to use Chinese in everyday situations and gradually became more confident communicating with local people.

We also appreciated the support from the Lens Talk team throughout our stay. They were always available when we had questions and helped us feel more comfortable exploring China with our children.

The Family Camp gave us a great opportunity to learn, experience, and create memories together as a family. We would recommend Lens Talk to families who are looking for a flexible and personalized way to discover Chinese language and culture.

Kunming, Yunnan

Very helpful, and I truly appreciate the extra mile they go for their guests. I came to Kunming, Yunnan, with my sons, knowing our Chinese was very limited and expecting that not many people would speak English compared to bigger cities like Beijing or Shanghai.

From the moment we arrived, they made us feel safe, welcomed, and well taken care of. They didn’t just support my children’s summer camp, they also helped us with the little things we needed to settle into life in China, which made a huge difference.

One incident that really showed their dedication was when one of my son’s stuffed animals was accidentally lost by the hotel during housekeeping while they were changing the bedsheets. The Lens Talk team immediately stepped in, communicated with the hotel on our behalf, and helped arrange for every possible way to locate and return it. This is exactly the kind of extra mile I was referring to. It may seem like a small thing, but it meant a lot to my son and to us as parents.

I especially appreciate how flexible they are with the itinerary and how accommodating they are to our needs. My children have had a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and language while enjoying a meaningful and enriching experience.

I highly recommend Lens Talk to anyone looking for a supportive, well-organized, and authentic cultural experience in China.

What was your funniest moment?
When we had the making dumplings activity! The children ended up making crazy funny shapes of dumplings 😆
Pros
  • Helpful and kind
  • Very Flexible
  • Great location

A Chinese adventure I didn’t want to end !!

I had the opportunity to study Chinese for 3 weeks with Lens Talk in Kunming, and it was a truly wonderful experience, both humanly and academically enriching.

I sincerely want to thank the whole team for their kindness, warm welcome, and constant support throughout my stay. Everyone contributed to making this experience smooth, enjoyable, and very motivating.

The classes were clear, well structured, and adapted to my level. The atmosphere was always positive and supportive, which helped me feel comfortable from the very first day. I regained confidence in myself and made real progress in a short amount of time.

Studying in Kunming is also very inspiring. It is a beautiful and peaceful city, perfect for learning Chinese while discovering local culture. After classes, I had the chance to practice Chinese in real life situations, explore the city, and fully enjoy the immersion experience.

Everything was well organized by Lens Talk, including accommodation and daily support, which made the whole experience stress-free and reassuring.

Even with a basic level of English, everything went smoothly. The teachers and staff always made an effort to communicate and help us understand.

I highly recommend this program to anyone looking for a simple, immersive, and human way to learn Chinese !!

LensTalk has been excellent for our family!

Our family first moved to Kunming in 2017, and quickly realized we needed to learn Chinese. LensTalk has been an excellent fit for our family! The teachers are fun and engaging, and find creative ways to help us use our Chinese in real-life situations. Not only are we learning the language, they have also provided us with culture classes which help us understand the rich Chinese culture even more. Their beautiful school is located right in the heart of Kunming, and easily accessible by subway. We cannot recommend this school enough! Whether you are a beginner learner, looking to advance your Chinese language skills, or make a short-term visit, this school can provide what you need. Our children (ages 17 to 9) have all benefitted greatly from classes at LensTalk as well!

My offline Chinese course: so good I almost forgot I was learning

I’ve tried a few ways to learn Chinese – apps, online tutors, even self-study – but nothing came close to the offline, one-on-one course I just finished at Lens Talk. I chose their Business Chinese program, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.

The course is fully customized. My teacher sat down with me first, asked about my goals (business negotiations, emails, and workplace communication), and built a three-week plan just for me. The most recommended format is five hours of immersive learning per day – and honestly, it sounds intense, but it never felt tiring because of how well it was structured.

Every morning, I had three hours of indoor class. We focused on vocabulary, sentence patterns, and business scenarios. Then in the afternoon, two hours of real-world practice based exactly on what we learned in the morning. That’s where the magic happened.

For example, one day we studied how to handle a cooperation negotiation with another company. My teacher prepared all the useful phrases and cultural tips. But what really shocked me was the afternoon session – she actually brought in a friend of hers who works at a local company, and we did a full simulated negotiation. I had to introduce my company, discuss terms, and handle counteroffers. It was real, a little stressful, and incredibly useful. That’s true “learn and apply” in action.

The location made everything easy too. The school is right in the city center, so getting there was never a problem. Tons of food options around – different cuisines every day. And my accommodation was really comfortable, only about five minutes’ walk from the classroom. I could go back for a quick rest or grab my notes anytime.

Over three weeks, I learned so much more than textbook Chinese. My teacher taught me how people actually talk in business settings – the polite refusals, the indirect suggestions, the small talk before a meeting. And because it was one-on-one, the schedule was super flexible. If I needed to start later one day, we just adjusted.

Oh, and I discovered a Yunnan snack called *zha yang yu* – fried potatoes. It comes in different flavors, spicy, minty, cheesy… I got addicted.

I honestly recommend Lens Talk’s Business Chinese program to anyone who wants more than just grammar drills. If you need real, usable Chinese and enjoy learning through doing, give it a try. You might just forget you’re learning too.

What would you improve about this program?
Business negotiation skills – I learned how to introduce my company, discuss terms, and handle counteroffers in real-life simulated negotiations.

Practical vocabulary and sentence patterns – My teacher prepared specific business phrases for cooperation and negotiation, and I learned how to use them naturally.

Real-world communication – I improved my ability to understand and use polite refusals, indirect suggestions, and workplace small talk – things you don’t usually learn from textbooks.

Confidence in speaking – The daily afternoon practice with real people (like the negotiation simulation with a friend of my teacher) made me much more confident using Chinese in actual business settings.

The Chinese school that gave me the most unforgettable experience

I'm not someone who enjoys writing reviews, but this experience really made me want to share it. The learning experience at Lenstalk was very enjoyable for me. The teacher is very professional. They can understand my needs and quickly resolve my questions.

I have four hours of classes every day. Two of them are in the morning. In the afternoon, the teacher will take me to explore the city of Kunming and practice the Chinese I learned in the morning. This arrangement is very reasonable. At the same time, I also really enjoyed the Chinese culture class. I made some very beautiful tie-dye designs and learned to play mahjong. Although I'm not very good at it, haha.

Regarding accommodation, the facilities at the school are excellent and it takes about five minutes to walk to the school. What I have to say is that the location of the school is truly in the city center and very convenient. I can find a wide variety of Chinese cuisine there.

Finally, I would like to say that every teacher in this team truly enjoys their work. One can sense their genuine love for this job, and they also receive respect and self-worth. I hope I will have the chance to come back again soon.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I want to explore different places in Yunnan.
