Projects Abroad: A Program Worthy of Respect

During my time working at an NGO in Togo, I discovered joys and tragedies within the country that I never would have discovered otherwise. My NGO focused on health, development and women's rights, and they were a reputable NGO that received concrete funding from large organizations in order to carry out their numerous projects. The director of my organization quickly informed me about all of the projects they had going on, the issues Togo was facing and how to fix them. Volunteering with locals gave me an insider view of the country, its problems and what makes it wonderful as well. I mainly worked leading the organization's English club, writing grants requests, visiting orphanages and helping out with other's projects. Projects Abroad did very well in finding an appropriate placing in exactly what I wanted to work with and frequently checkin up to make sure everything is going well. My supervisor, who was super present and helpful throughout my whole stay, even brainstormed ideas with me and wanted to create a joint project with my office and the Projects Abroad office; I ended up not having enough time in Togo to execute a project like that, so it fell through, but it was a great idea and showed how involved Projects Abroad was! Projects Abroad even switched one of the volunteer's job to one she could create a larger impact with and enjoy more. Projects Abroad really does help the community they are working with, organizing activities like medical outreaches, orphanage visits, and funding specific projects. I respect all that Projects Abroad does for the development of our world, and it was a great, life-altering experience to be a part of that.
