Surf Outreach Cape Town

Review
I volunteered through Iko Poran in South Africa in March and April 2017, in the Surf Outreach program, but since the program is run by the org. Volunteer and Explore so this review is for them
Transfer: went fine.
Accomodation: I was told I will be staying at the town where the project takes place (Muizenberg) but I was not. I was in a house in a town some kms away (Fishhoek) and not even in the center of that town, meaning I had to take a taxi or walk a long distance to the main station, where I was supposed to take the train to the project. I was supposed to pay for the train fare myself (which is very little money). That train route is safe during the day but not in the evenings but the organization was trying to convince me of the opposite. Do your reasearch about traveling by train in Cape Town yourself, to understand what I mean.
Project: The project is chaotic and the structure promised by the organization is not respected. You will not receive surf lessons, you will start at different times each day and will give a hand with whatever they are doing that day and will get in the water with the kids on a surfboard and wetsuit provided by the Surf Outreach.
Communication with the organization: I addressed my concerns about being too far from the project and they tried to convince me that the Fishoek was was better and that taking the train was no problem. Then an arrangement was made so that I could travel by car with people from another surf organization (I suggested it) but they didn't seem too happy to take me and I always had to stick around after my project to see if my transfer could take me or not. In the end, after a lot of back and forth I was put in a hostel where the project in Muizenberg but the organizer tried to discourage me from it.
In summary: Little involvment from the org., hardly any money goes to the surf outreach (and they really need it), they just seem to want to make profit. DO NOT RECOMEND
