- Maldives
About Program
There are few places in the world as picturesque as the Maldives, and in its waters resides the magnificent whale shark.
The aim of the project is to increase knowledge of whale shark activity in the region so that an appropriate conservation strategy can be created.
Whilst here, you will have the unique chance to encounter whale sharks in their natural environment, collecting vital data on size, markings and more which can be passed onto authorities. Other species waiting to be discovered in this island paradise are manta rays, turtles, dolphins and more. You will work with the local community to spread awareness of the plight of the whale shark and assist with beach cleans to reduce the amount of litter on the island which is a problem for both people and wildlife.
To see their unique, huge, dotted bodies swimming directly below you, volunteering with whale sharks is sure to be an experience you never forget! So what are you waiting for?
