April 2015 I left Europe for the first time in my life, all alone. I wanted to learn spanish and to work for the red cross in Mexico, since I am a Med Student in Zurich I hoped to learn a lot, and I did! First I spent 2 weeks in Puerto Vallarta, where I had to learn basic spanish. I lived In a colocation with a girl from Minessota and a mexican guy. The girl was in my school too. our school is called Spanish Experience. I learned so much in such a short period of time, that I still can't believe it! after a few days in basic class I could change to the advanced. and we where just 3 students and 1 teacher. We learned so much! and we had a lot of fun! we had cooking class and went out for dancing and enjoyed the sea. After two weeks I was ready to go to Oaxaca, where my next adventure was waiting.
In Oaxaca I leaved with a host family and went to school every morning at Solexico and worked for the curz roja mexicana in the afternoon usually till 8. I was very busy but I loved it. I met new Friends at school (One of them was Dune, an incredible, amazing girl! she really deserves to win another jurney because she is just made for travelling :D). I Spanish got better every day, since I had to speak spanish all day at the hospital. I learned how to stitch patient's wounds and how to tell the doctors what the patient's problems where. At the hospital I met also mexican med students. it was very interesting to see how they work (much much more practice than we have) and to talk to them. every 2 weeks they have a 24h shift at the red cross! they learn so much there! The only problem for me was, that I met new student's every day and all of them where curious what that strange white girl was doing there... so I had to tell my story every day. but after a while I learned how to tell the story very fast and short ;).
after work I went out with the friends I met at school and the mexican medstudents. It never felt like Oaxaca was a dangerous city! I always felt safe.
after 4 Weeks in Oaxaca I had to go back home... it was sad to say goodbye to all my new friends. I will never forget my time in Mexico, and the people I met there!
