Sydney Dodson- Cape Town/ VAC

I chose to come to Cape Town because I was looking for an amazing travel and work experience. During this process of looking for what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go, I came across the VACorps program and it seemed like the perfect fit, and it has been amazing! My favorite part about Cape Town has been the beautiful scenery everywhere. The mountains and the oceans are visible on any drive or any hike, which is something I do not see at home. A few of my favorite activities have been watching the sunset, especially on Signal Hill. Another one of my favorite activities was hanging out with the kids during the braai at Khayelitsha. Through working at my internship site and spending time here in Cape Town, I have furthered my love of children and my desire to help others. Although I was only in Cape Town for a short 4.5 weeks, I have grown and met life-long friends. I would advise others to stay for at least 6 weeks if possible because there is so much to do in Cape Town! This has truly been an amazing experience.
