I have been studying Chinese since I was in high school. But it is extremely difficult to learn a language that foreign to your own if you don’t have the chance to speak with locals. That is one of many reasons why I chose to intern in China because I wanted to step up my language game. In addition, I would like to work in translations, so I was looking to gain some work experience in that field.

The company I worked at had a translator team for events. Therefore I did a lot of proofreading and translated documents, primarily marketing materials or flyers. The languages I worked with were mainly Chinese and English, but every now and then, I could also put my Spanish skills to use. Just Swedish was never really needed ^^

My internship helped me increase my language skills a lot! Over the first weeks, I primarily focused on improving my vocabulary, but as time went by, I also had the chance to learn some slang words and phrases that my colleagues taught me. This made real-life conversations and watching series or reading the news a lot easier!
Through my internship, I definitely grew as a person and hope to get a career in translation in the future. Also, I hope to be back in China soon!
