Volunteering with Shamiri

I stayed in Mwanza, Tanzania for one year with Shamiri as my organization. I had a very memorable year, during which I learned a lot and had many great new experiences!
Through Shamiri me and my fellow volunteers had a lovely and very organized mentor, who met with us every week, teaching us about culture, politics and the role we had as volunteers, helping us with our struggles and generally supporting us throughout the year. She provided us with a beautiful house in the heart of Mwanza and introduced us to the different possible activities such as an international choir, sports and of course the monthly pub quiz. This helped me a lot to get to know some people and the community and was something that I previously struggled with.
We also had private Swahili lessons, which proved to be very helpful during every day life and my work, as English often doesn't get you far in the local areas.
Overall, I had a great time that I will never forget and want to thank Shamiri for making this possible and supporting me during my whole time in Tanzania.
