Best way to immerse yourself in French

I was in Pau France for 4 months, and when I compare my language ability from the start of my program to the end I see significant differences. Pau is a small walkable city with a great city center. All of the shop keepers are very welcoming and enjoy speaking with the foreign students when they can. All of the bartenders and waiters are also very friendly and willing to have a conversation with their customers. There are not a lot of advanced English speakers so I was forced to speak French which is what convinced me to choose Pau as my destination
