I had a great experience staying with Better Me, it was an introduction to social work and the impact ngo's can have for local communities. There is a general positive energy. The experience also gave me a peek into Kenyan culture and customs, for example by adressing people with their last name, washing clothes, cooking with firewood... Faremost, the team members value volunteer safety while also allowing the freedom to explore the city by yourself. During both day and nighttime the team members make arrangements to enjoy the city of Kisumu while also keeping an eye for possible hazards to safety. This allowed me to make personal connections outside of the program for which i am forever grateful.
