My two weeks in Brno were very well spent, and the organization by the International Office and academic staff at Masaryk University was on point.
The academic curriculum of the summer school Language, Culture, and Mind offered a detailed introduction to the theory and methods of Cultural and partly Cognitive Linguistics. The atmosphere in class was always productive and respectful, with just the right amount of challenge and summerly lightness. The group was the perfect mix from various disciplines, which made for very interesting contributions from varying perspectives.
The non-academic side was noticeably well thought through and organized. There was always something to do, with the possibility to opt out. The best part was to grab lunch or a coffee with my classmates and to chat about life and work in places from Turkey through Sweden to Taiwan. All of this in this amazing Central European city called Brno, which truly is a hidden gem, especially during summer.
On a very small downside, the Internet connection at the hotel was so bad that I had to do the work I had unfortunately brought from home either at the university or using a hotspot on my phone. I can also recommend finding a nice bar or restaurant and getting the work done there. There are so many nice places in Brno.
Also, the final party took place on a boat on a perfect summer day! I mean, come-on...
