An amazing summer adventure!

It's hard to know where begin...When I arrived, I felt immediately welcomed by everyone - staff, other volunteers, community members - and I could not believe the place I would call home for the next two months was so beautiful.

I loved that I could bring my own unique skill set to the local community and develop a unique outline of what would consist of my summer. Some projects I worked on included, but not limited to, co-coordinating the Mountain Gorilla Trail Run, working with the Batwa, and locating future hiking trails to be used for tourism. All of this done with the main goal of sustainability in mind.

The bond I made with people in those two short months will last a lifetime. I became fast friends with other volunteers and Rubuguri is a community full of wonderful people - many who I consider friends for life.

I left more confident, humbled, adventurous, and with a deep love for a hidden corner of paradise.
