About Program

Our Combined Level 5 TEFL Certificate (168 hours) is regulated by Ofqual (UK) and approved by the DEAC (US), so has official recognition from 2 government-recognised bodies! This makes all the difference when applying for jobs.

Our course is designed with potential employers in mind. Within the industry, some employers prefer “hands-on” study rather than purely online. This is why our combined course provides 10 hours in the classroom with an additional 158 hours of online study. This course will give you the confidence you need for the classroom and allow you to have a competitive edge in the job marketplace.

The 10-hour weekend classroom course is designed to break down the fundamentals of TEFL. Within those 10 hours you will have teaching opportunities while also gaining knowledge from other students in the classroom.

There is more to teaching than you think!

Even as proficient native speaker and professional, who has also trained people before, I found this course exceptionally informative and engaging!

I learnt a several new skills and also discovered many new things about my own language, approaches to teaching and also how to engage with different cultures and age groups!

The course was well put together, with excellent resources and great support.

I recommend the course to all aspiring TEFL teachers and can confidently say that it was value for money!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Having not studied and done assignments for many years, and also not being a teacher by profession, I was stumped at first by how to approach them but received fantastic support and guidance, and the resources were easy to understand.
Pros
  • Flexible study times
  • Cost effective
  • Can be done anywhere
Cons
  • I felt there could have been more engagement with other students and the tutors.

Let's do TEFL!

I was excited to enroll on my TEFL journey alongside my daughter. We formed a study group, and in most cases I was behind her as far as working through the units went. The units are structured well, but can be very intimidating, especially not having been in school, or learning since 1995. I was challenged, but pushed through. The Assignments were a bit confusing, but once you manage to decipher what is required, it was a lot easier. I tried my best and managed to pass. I am grateful that I enrolled with the TEFL Academy.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would make better notes and do more research on the parts of speech. My old brain was challenged
Pros
  • Tapped into a part of my brain to trigger memory
  • Opens a world of possibilities
Cons
  • Trying to remember everything was challenging
  • Not fully understanding what was expected in the Assignments

Highly Satisfied!

I'm a recent graduate of The TEFL Academy and a very happy one at that! It was a very different experience to try out, but one I'm certainly glad I did. On the day that I qualified, I applied for a position and have already been in contact with the sponsors to talk about the process going forward. It's all so exciting! 😁 It has been a smooth process from start to the end. I didn't really need to reach out for help during my studies, but it was very reassuring to know that there was help every step of the way if I needed it.

TEFL level 5 course

I wanted to change my career path and what better way to do that than to teach English as a foreign language and have the opportunity to travel.
I found the course very interesting, I learnt more about my native language that i dont remember learning at school.
The activities and test your knowledge exercises were challenging.
The assignments were a lot of fun and required a lot of research.
I really learnt a lot. Not only how to teach and plan English as a foreign language classes, but i have been using what i learnt to teach and train my new staff members.
It really is a very well layed.out and planned course.
Make sure you plan your study time well, at least 2 hours a day.
And most of all - Have fun.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would plan my time better to ensure i finish all activities on time with very little preasure on remaining time.
Pros
  • Learning a lot about English
  • Learnt how to better train my current staff
  • Enjoyed doing a lot of the exercises i found
Cons
  • Did not plan my time properly and put myself under undue pressure

Very rewarding!

I am a Taiwanese girl living in South Africa. I took my level 5 combined course in Johannesburg. There were a few concepts in the course which I did not understand at first. However, because the content is online, we are allowed to read the text over and over again as well as ask tutors for support, thus learning becomes much easier. I attended the 10 hour classroom practice with the expectation that it would be very difficult as I have no teaching experience. However, the TEFL trainer taught in a way that made the atmosphere very relaxed. Plenty of interactive activities engaged our interest and stimulated our critical thinking as well. The training provided by the TEFL trainer was made easy and to the point so that by the end of the lesson, all of us were prepared enough to give very good presentations to the rest of the class. The TEFL level 5 combined course is one I would highly recommend to anyone who is not just looking for a teaching job, but would like to expand their horizons by experiencing new cultures and realising the potential of your students and yourself.

Pros
  • Quizzes in the online course allows you to retake them repeatedly and have no time limit.
  • You are allowed to request for an extension at a cheap price.
  • Online course is learned at your own pace, allowing you to plan your learning around your own schedule.
Cons
  • There is not much real world teaching practice as the course does not require you to teach in front of real students.
  • Online learning has no face-to-face interaction and students are not able to ask questions on the spot and get immediate answers tailored to their needs.

Online TEFL Course, Level 5 Diploma (168hrs)

The course was well constructed. It contained all the necessary material and instruction to educate a participant on how to teach English as a foreign language. It was informative, challenging and now I will reap the rewards. Looking forwards to beginning my journey with my new skills and qualification.

I would recommend this course to anybody seeking the means to become equipped to teach English.

The first step is always the hardest. But once you start the course, you will be motivated to see it through.

Pros
  • Informative
  • Modern
  • Interactive
Cons
  • Rigid
