LIFE CHANGING

I booked with IVHQ for my three week trip to Arusha, Tanzania to volunteer at a local preschool. The trip exceeded any and all expectations in the best way possible. I felt completely safe and at home in Tanzania. IVHQ was there for support whenever it was needed. Through them, I was able to meet 30 other volunteers from all around the world. I was expecting for this trip to change me and challenge me, but the outcome was greater than ever. I not only learned so much about myself, but I gained an appreciation for so many things that at home we describe as necessities. I learned the true value of love and time, and I learned to be at peace with where I am in the present moment. I could go on and on about how much this experience has changed me. Moral of the story though, IVHQ has allowed me to become the woman I have always wanted to be and I cannot thank them enough for also allowing the process to be quite simple and effortless. Being able to travel all around Tanzania on the most wildest adventures like a 4 day safari in the Serengeti or hike to the most beautiful waterfall, as well as being able to care for children and be apart of something so wholesome, is something I only ever dreamed of.

What was your funniest moment?
My funniest moment would have to be when all of us volunteers went out for dinner and drinks and it turned into a full blown kareoke night with the locals. All of us singing brown eyed girl, laughing and dancing will be something I will always remember.
Pros
  • Self-development/ growth
  • Understanding/ appreciation
  • adventures/ friendships
Cons
  • pushed out of your comfort zone
  • not much cell service
  • you will get dirty/muddy

My trip to Tanzania was everything I hoped it would be and more.

My trip to Tanzania was everything I hoped it would be and more. The people I met at the volunteer house were some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met and I loved spending time with them. My placement at Teddy Daycare was lovely as well. It was what I was expecting and I was able to bring some donations that the kids seemed to really enjoy. Also, the safari was amazing! I wish I could have stayed longer, but I will definitely be making an effort to come back to Africa as soon as I can and would love to stay longer next time. IVHQ made my first solo trip a seamless experience and I now have the confidence to do more.

Incredible Experience

My experience in Tanzania was incredible. I feel like I had a lot of information passed on to me before I entered the country which was really helpful and upon arrival the information was mostly accurate. I felt I was very prepared and everyone was there to help. It was mainly all solo travellers which made it so easy to make friends that I will definitely keep for life. My time there was absolutely life changing, I could not recommend it enough. I feel the only thing that could be a bit more explained is where the fees go, with the program being quite expensive it would be nice to know exactly where the money goes.

Pros
  • Met incredible people
  • Built on myself

Childcare in Arusha

Everything was very simple and it went smooth; three months-time of correspondence prior the volunteering and two weeks-time while doing volunteering - everything was very simple!
I am satisfied a lot, with the amazing experience I had with IVHQ. Mariana is very good and experienced program manager, solving any doubts which I was having and sharing any kind of documentations I needed, on time. The program was explained into many details, followed with few reminders via email, with "to do" things, not to forget any thing, and to be prepared very well before the trip.
IVHQ - very recommendable.

Pros
  • Meeting lovely kids
  • Meeting local culture
  • Meeting local people
Cons
  • Seeing much trash at streets

Tanzania

I had the time of my life in Arusha. I met so many amazing people from all over the world that I will now stay in contact with for the rest of my life. I loved the school I was placed at. I will remember those kids forever. I also did some great excursions such as the safari in the Serengeti and ngorogoro crater and went to the beautiful margoroto forest. Arusha was a lovely small city and if you can get past the overwhelming part at first you will love the locals. I wish I was still there. I will be going back.

Pros
  • Meeting people
  • Making a difference
  • Seeing a beautiful part of the world

Get your heart melted by Makayuni Maasai community

It's been a bit over a week since I got back from my volunteering experience with Maasai Immersion in Tanzania but my heart and mind is still there. Seeking reconnection with myself, I not only found it, but I also got to relive some of the happiest memories from my childhood through the eyes of those kids. I’ve never felt so welcomed in my life as the Makayuni Maasai people welcomed us. I burst into tears of gratitude and happiness just to be there, to join the villagers, and to learn from them. It felt like home. I still miss waking up to the sound of the donkey and kids singing before school starts. They are well prepared for their visitors and you will have the best accommodations and probably one of the best food you've tried in Tanzania! Thank you IVHQ for opening this program and this amazing experience!

Pros
  • Rich culture
  • Simple living
  • Learning gratitude and respect

a meaningful, exciting and out-of-this-world summer experience

volunteering in the childcare/teaching program in arusha is one of the best decisions I've ever made, not only because I was able to give back, while emerging myself in the incredible lifestyle and environment tanzania has to offer, but also because of everything it taught me about the people, the country and the cultural heritage; I learned so much about myself and the other volunteers in the program, with whom I formed long-lasting and valuable friendships with, because working with like-minded people on shared values provides the support you need while on the program; I am incredibly grateful for this summer and wish I could go back and relive everything all over again!

Pros
  • the friendships you make at the volunteer programs are long lasting and a huge support while in the program
  • volunteering with like-minded people on shared values and adventures is a great way to learn about different cultures and the world around you while making a positive impact
  • volunteering abroad is a transformative experience that can teach you a lot about yourself and impacts your growth profoundly
Cons
  • some safety issues regarding commutes to and from placement, unfortunately
  • while the program price is relatively low, add-ons are significantly more expensive
  • lots of people travel accompanied, but even though it can be more challenging traveling solo, it can also be more exciting, because it requires you to be more self-reliant, and it can boost your self-confidence and independence

An incredible opportunity to learn and give back

I had an amazing time volunteering in Zanzibar, I learned a lot about conservation as well as local culture. There was a large variety of activities on offer, I particularly enjoyed scuba diving to help with the coral reef restoration, working in the local primary school and the cooking class. All the staff were friendly and helpful! I met so many incredible people and have taken a lot of new knowledge back home with me.
At the time the program was titled with a focus on turtle conservation but during my time I did not see any turtles or turtle eggs.

Pros
  • broad range of activities
  • friendly staff
  • unique opportunities (ie cooking class with locals)
Cons
  • I did not see any turtles as advertised at the time
