About Program

Nutrition Abroad 4 Nutrition Students (NA4NS) invites dietetic interns to the beautiful island of Barbados. Students will become familiar with the Bajan culture, environment, foods and cuisine through a variety of cultural activities. This renal-focused internship rotation ensures students have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of chronic kidney disease and its nutrition management. They will work extensively with dialysis patients and healthcare professionals in a local facility/hospital and via telehealth. Students will develop and strengthen a variety of skills from interviewing, assessment, and counseling to designing written resources such as handouts, pamphlets and infographics, power point presentations and websites. Students will also have the opportunity to develop and implement community-based programs. While the focus might be renal, the knowledge and skills gained will be an asset to all dietetic interns in their professional development.
