About Program
We do not offer paid internships or cater for volunteering experiences. To be eligible for a Work the World nursing internship, you need to be in nursing school, or have equivalent clinical experience (MD or equivalent). We can also not accept premeds.
If you choose to undertake your internship in Arequipa, your placement will begin in a developing healthcare system that is worlds away from what you’ve ever seen before. Generally speaking, nurses in Peru don’t specialize, however they do run and maintain a local HIV center and TB center. Here, you’ll have the chance to observe and work in both of these centers, gleaning unique insight into a low-resource clinical environment, and, as such, developing both as individuals and as professionals.
Peru is also home to the ancient mountaintop citadel, Machu Picchu and the lush Amazon rainforest. Participants can enjoy white water rafting, trekking through the jungle, or learning the local language in our bespoke class.
