About Program
We do not offer paid internships or cater for volunteering experiences. To be eligible for a Work the World medical internship, you need to be in medical school, or have equivalent clinical experience (MD or equivalent). We can also not accept premeds.
While in Kandy, Medical interns will have every chance to experience low-resource healthcare in a developing country first-hand. Work the World’s partner hospital houses a range of departments participants can work in, which include general surgery, ICU and OBG. There’s also the opportunity to live in a rural Sri Lankan village, learning the ancient art of Ayurveda, in which tree barks, oils, and herbs are all used to create medicine.
Outside of the placement experience, participants will find Sri Lanka brimming with adventure: with everything from ancient ruins and temples to pro-surfing beaches.
