Only Broadreach would offer the kind of professional scuba training course that demands more of its candidates, pushes them further, and transforms them into professional divers and more confident leaders. The Divemaster Intern program starts off like any other Divemaster course. Students undergo 7-days of intensive dive training, covering in-class dive theory as well as in-water simulations and skill demonstration. From there, the candidates push off onto one of several Broadreach boats, working closely with Broadreach staff and mentoring small groups of students, in and out of the water.

I experienced the Broadreach PADI program during the Marine Biology San Salvador, Bahamas trip. i was terrified the first day because i had never even gone snorkeling, but as soon as we went on our first dive i fell in love! the support was great and the learning experience was at the perfect comfortable pace. I may have just gotten lucky, but my group was AMAZING! we all had such a smooth time learning how to dive (especially since we were in San Sal), and because of our PADI experience, we all still talk everyday, 6 months later!

What would you improve about this program?

the food at the Gerace research center wasn't very good but everything else truly was perfect!

Words cannot describe my Broadreach experience.

Broadreach live on-board diving programs are unique in that they are productive, but do not sacrifice traveling. This was my second diving/sailing program, and not only did I earn more certifications this time, I also traveled to more places. On my previous program, we were confined to one country, but on my Broadreach program, I managed to visit St Maarten, Saba, St Eustatius, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Barts. We experienced different cultures, spoke different languages, and spent different currencies.

The diving was amazing. Because of the diverse places we went to, each place we dove was unique. And unlike other diving programs that have a strict diving schedule, Broadreach instructors leave the scheduling to the participants. Because my crew was extremely eager and productive, we squeezed in so many dives! I ended up earning around nine certifications, and that is all due to the fact that we could schedule the dives as a group.

I couldn't asked for a better way to spend the first half of August! Thank you Broadreach!

What would you improve about this program?

The only issue we had was a shortage of food. The crew really liked to help ourselves to snacks during the day, and we quickly ran out of the provided food.

Why Broadreach?

I chose to study with Broadreach due to their high focus of studies. I’ve always been very interested in Marine Biology and knew I wanted a trip that would further my knowledge. I loved how this trip was very hands on; I got the opportunity to study with a Marine biologist and 2 Scuba instructors. Our classrooms weren’t always just a lab, they were tropical beaches just steps away from beautiful reefs. We would learn all about Coral and fish diversity, and get to experience it the next day on one of our many fun dives.

What did Broadreach do for you and what did you need to do on your own?

Broadreach definitely gave me the self-confidence to experience things on my own. I came on this trip not knowing anyone or what to expect. The atmosphere the trip leaders provided allowed everyone to feel comfortable. By the end, we really did become a “broadreach family”. Not only did Broadreach allow me to become more confident in myself, it also allowed me further my knowledge on Marine biology and as well as diving. Diving was definitely a huge opportunity given to me by Broadreach. I came on this trip as an inexperienced diver but by the end I left as an Advanced Open Water Diver. Before I knew it I was diving at maximum 70ft surrounded by astonishing reefs and the marine life they provide. This is something I don’t think I would’ve been able to experience by myself back home.

Although they provided me with so many awesome experiences I also learned to do things on my own. One thing that really sticks out to me was taking my knowledge and bringing it back home to my family and friends. One of our many very interesting lessons was on Marine Conservation. I was amazed by all the threats the ocean faces, most of which are by us. I took back everything I learned and informed everyone on how we can prevent them. I hope to soon open up my very own school club.

What was the best place you visited outside of your study abroad city?

Apart from my study abroad trip in San Salvador, Bahamas, the best place I’ve visited has probably got to be Dublin Ireland. I thought the culture and scenery was incredible and I would love to go back one day.

I honestly don’t think I would do over anything! I had such an incredible experience on this trip. Whether it was from diving, having lessons, exploring caves, night dives/snorkels and even just hanging out with my 8 new friends, this trip will stick with me forever.

Do you feel you got a chance to see the city from a local's perspective?

Definitely! San Salvador was such a small island in the Bahamas. With only one road and a very small population, by the end of the trip we knew so many familiar faces. One thing we always went by was, “we are travellers not tourists.” We respected the Island and the people who lived on it. I think this made our traveling abroad experience even more special.
