Alumni Spotlight: Kara Conley

Why did you decide to study abroad with API at UCD?

Kara Conley: The people who I met definitely helped make my experience. I met girls who I traveled to other countries with. Not only that, my Irish roommates definitely helped me get an idea of the country and helped me through the semester.

What made this study abroad experience unique and special?

Kara Conley: I decided to go abroad with API because of the exciting excursions that they offered and the fact that I would be living with other students (either locals, US or other exchange students from other programs). I chose UCD because I preferred the classes being offered, l had heard of UCD's prestige, and I felt more comfortable with API's housing options. I also knew I wanted to be in Dublin and I debated between Trinity and UCD; UCD offered more of what I wanted.

How has this experience impacted your future?

Kara Conley: I have been abroad a couple of other times, but not as long and not alone. I left not knowing anyone and it helped me to grow and find myself. My management class definitely helped me realize that I was in the right major. I became more independent and I now feel more comfortable going to the airport and flying to different states alone. As an American student with a limited budget, I now want to travel and explore what the US has to offer to me. I made some great connections and networks for my future endeavors.
