Sneha graduated from The University of Nottingham with a first class degree in Finance and Business and is currently studying towards the CIMA professional qualification. She has been an active member of two student societies whilst at university. She seeks to build a global business career. Her international experience includes attending the business summer school in China (summer 2011) and an internship with CLSA in Hong Kong this year.

Why did you decide to intern abroad with StandOut in Hong Kong?

I based my decision on two main reasons - first, to gain work experience abroad that helps me stand out in the job market, and StandOut also perfectly aligned with my career goals. Secondly, I chose Hong Kong over other places for its reputation as a leading financial center in Asia and its fast paced dynamic lifestyle.

StandOut has been very supportive throughout the entire application process. I received extensive guidance at all stages during the internship both at formal and informal levels.

What made this experience unique and special?

Apart from the unique experience of working in a different cultural setting, I believe it was meeting other like-minded interns from around the world that made it special. I made some very good friends while on internship, and I now share my flat with one of them!

How has this experience impacted your future?

Taking the advice from my manager during the internship, I researched into a CIMA (Charted Institute of Management Accountants) qualification, and found that it focuses on the exact areas of business that I wanted to specialize in and I am now currently on the path towards receiving this degree in London.

What was the highlight of your experience?

One of the highlights for me was the visit to the trading floor of CLSA’s headquarters. I was thrilled to watch traders working on 8 computer screens and closing deals on the phone at the same time!

What is one piece of advice you would offer someone considering interning abroad in Hong Kong?

Take every opportunity to socialize and network in Hong Kong, it is a great place to establish contacts. I find that stepping out of my comfort zone and taking the challenge to work abroad is a great way to boost confidence.
