What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory is from ten years ago and when my passion for traveling the world was sparked. I visited my sister who was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the exotic country of Morocco.

I bargained in the colorful markets of Marrakesh, explored the fortress walls around the seaside city of Essaouira, toured the famous tanneries, shopped for traditional rugs in local villages and photographed towns made from clay.

My favorite memory from this trip was the visit to the Sahara which began with camel rides to a traditional Berber tent for the night where we danced, smoked Shisha and climbed to the top of a sand-dune where I observed the brightest stars I have ever seen in my life. This particular night still stands out to me as my absolute best travel memory and one of the most breathtaking nights I have ever experienced.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have met, worked with and become close with people from all over the world, most of whom I would never have met if I was in an office job in the States.

I have also been given the opportunity to explore the world whether it be for site visits, trainings or visa runs!

The best part of exploring the world as a GVI employee is being able to visit the remote, non-touristy areas of the country such as remote hill-tribes where we work with elephants or teaching Burmese refuges in southern Thailand.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

The best story that I have heard from a returning volunteer is how their time with GVI changed their life; from quitting the job they were unhappy in, moving abroad, giving back to society, and finding happiness in a new, unfamiliar environment.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would love to visit the Fiji projects as they have such a diverse program! Marine conservation including PADI dive master internships, construction work, teaching or even childcare all located on two different picturesque islands. I would love to work hard by week then relax on the beautiful beaches on the weekends.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

GVI is unique because of our diverse range of projects, our impact, our teamwork and our passion.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Health and safety, sustainability, making a difference.
