Tell us about yourself, Thomas.

I'm currently the Marketing Manager at That's Mandarin. I was born in London, UK and now live in Shanghai China. I am currently learning Mandarin and traveling around Asia

What is your favorite travel memory?

Landing in Hainan, China in the early hours of the morning, and feeling the sea breeze while seeing the sunrise over the tropical landscape.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I've learned to work with and manage an international team of excellent marketers. It's been a great challenge working in a bilingual environment and adjusting the cultural norms of working in a Chinese company.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

It's great to see China Camp families return each year for another summer camp. The children get bigger but they still come with the same enthusiasm, from all over the world. Just to hear the parents say that their children asked them specifically to come here when they could try and visit other countries is very rewarding.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Actually, I signed up for one-on-one Chinese lessons, and find them very useful to building a successful working relationship with my Chinese teammates. I've also had friends from back home sign-up to our online classes to help them get ready for their next trips to China.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

That's Mandarin is very flexible and fair. We care about our customers and value their feedback. I enjoy seeing the teachers relax with their students between classes and with the kids at summer camp. The atmosphere is unique and I think the student's relationships with the teachers is very harmonious.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

12 Years of growth and success largely comes down to how the school is managed. The CEO, Department Managers, Headteachers, and other staff all have the same goals in mind.

The teachers have to go through a lot of training and care about the school's reputation and are motivated to keep our standards high. It also helps that the school has a great modern working environment, which makes it pleasant to come to work each day.
