Staff Spotlight: Kristin AmRhein

Title:
Speech-Language Pathologist

Kristin is a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist in New York City who loves to travel. Her mission in life is to combine these two passions and build awareness and services for communication and swallowing disorders overseas.

What is your favorite travel memory?

As a counselor at an English camp in Italy, I had the unique experience to travel and live in several different cities with host families. I loved learning about the culture, food and language from my Italian host families who so graciously welcomed me into their home and showed me the beauty of their country.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have become more dedicated to the mission of growing speech, language and feeding services in underserved communities within my own neighborhood and abroad. I plan to continue working for Therapy Abroad and inspiring students and clinicians to think outside the box and go abroad whether it be through Therapy Abroad or on their own.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

It always made me smile to hear how inspired the students were after their Therapy Abroad program to find more opportunities to work overseas once becoming a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Belize: Undergraduate Communication Sciences & Disorders Program.

I would choose to go on this program with Therapy Abroad as it is a unique 2-week experience for Communication Sciences and Disorders students to gain hands-on experience in the field as an undergraduate while learning about a new country and culture.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Therapy Abroad is unique because it creates awareness of communication and swallowing disorders in developing countries. I am proud to be a part of a team that is dedicated to educating and mentoring students to think outside the box and consider how they can apply their skill set to impact international communities.
