What is your favorite travel memory?

On a 2-month trip through Spain, I tracked down a list of all the public locations where they filmed Game of Thrones over the show's run. It turns out Spain is a great place to film! There were so many locations! I was able to visit four different places that you'd recognize in a second. It took a lot of patience to recreate the shots, especially with so many tourists milling around. Worth the wait!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I never new how much I loved kids! In the past, I have only really worked with kids in a limited capacity, and coming to Centro Infantil de los Angeles has shown me that being around children is something I thrive on! It's really brought out another side of me. I am usually hyper-focused, but working in the Daycare can be a challenge because it's just so distracting! I have to set aside time to spend away, because there really is nothing like spending time with the children.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Christian, a volunteer from Denmark, had a great story that I love to share. At CILA we love birthdays! Each child gets to feel special on their birthday, and everyone receives a gift. Christian bought a gift for one of the children but was worried that the other kids would be jealous. He was so pleasantly surprised that the kids were all so happy together, and that nobody was upset!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Our volunteer program puts you right next to an amazing woman to observe, learn from, support, and admire. The women here are truly a cut above, and being able to work with them is an incredible privilege. Volunteering at CILA means you get the best of both worlds: spend time with the kids in the morning, and enjoy your afternoons knowing you made a difference.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Centro Infantil de los Angeles is a special, special place. There are so many people working together towards a common goal of improving the local community. That teamwork and the collective energy is really something unique, and it comes from a unique source: our Director! She is the most amazing woman, and working for her makes me proud every day.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

The most important thing a company needs to be successful is culture! A strong internal company culture comes from having strong values, and processes derived from them. When you believe in patience, you do things patiently, and you develop a culture of patience. This culture is self-creating, and so in order to have an organization that is efficient, creative, supportive, and communal, we start by believing in those things first.
