Interview

What is your favorite travel memory?

I still remember when I set foot in Singapore. I was so amazed by how movie-set like the whole country is. The mix between old and new, technology and nature is like no other place on earth. You will always be amazed in Singapore. The culture is so rich, the food so delicious and the people always the nicest. It really left a mark on me!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I come from Nicaragua and I used to work for a +500 employee company. So coming to Barcelona and working with Absolute has allowed me to wear multiple hats, and create a real tangible change not only within the organization but with all our stakeholders. I feel we are making an amazing impact in the young generation.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

We had a student from Mauritius that chose an internship in his current major. After the internship, he realized that was not what he wanted to do with his life and decided to change his major. He then took part of another program in his new major with us and loved it. He's been now in 3 different programs and has decided to open his own company thanks to the experience he got from working with 3 different companies in 3 different parts of the world! Sometimes red lights are actually green lights :)

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

This is a hard one! I'm particularly fond of the Brits, and London has always been a happy place for me. London is a city that has it all, the multinational companies, the start-ups, the fintech, the cosmopolitan vibes. London has such a rich culture not only coming from the British but also because of the diversity you find there. If you would like to have some sort of confidence, they speak English which is comfy when you are far away from home! And whoever says the food is bad, has clearly never been in the right places in London. The people, the food, the culture are all outstanding, and the working opportunities... they are everywhere!

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Absolute Internship really cares for their students. They are not a code or a number for us, we actually learn their names and industries and goals in life. We've hosted more than 5,000 students in a period of more or less 10 years and we still remember the names and stories of students who interned 9 years ago. We put all our hearts and soul and sweat to try to make this experience an unforgettable one for the students.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I believe having a clear vision and mission is key. We have a strong mission and are reminded of it every single day: Create success through life-changing experiences. And we do that every single year. We give the students tools, skills and knowledge that wouldn't be able to get otherwise by giving them the opportunity to live and intern abroad, and that life-changing experience will prepare them and give them an edge to reach success.
