Great career growth opportunity for university students

I had an incredible experience with absolute internship during my internship program in Barcelona in the summer of 2022 while studying at the University of Kent. The team was exceptional in helping me choose the perfect program, tailored to my interests and career goals. This internship provided me with valuable opportunities for both personal and professional growth. I gained practical experience, developed new skills, and built connections with like-minded individuals in my field. It also gave me a significant confidence boost as I took my first steps toward my career. Beyond the professional benefits, one of the most memorable aspects of the program was traveling with fellow interns and exploring the beautiful cities of Spain on weekends. These adventures added an extra layer of excitement and created lifelong memories. I highly recommend absolute internship to students and young professionals looking to kickstart their careers. It's a fantastic way to grow, learn, and experience life in a new and vibrant culture!

The best thing I did this summer!

Doing an internship with Absolute Internship this summer is the best decision I have made for my personal and professional development! I spent a month in Barcelona as a marketing intern where I was able to spend time in industry and meet amazing people from across the globe.

I heard about Absolute through a Global Opportunities session at my university. I first explored a few different companies but from the start the team at Absolute Internships was engaged and happy to answer my questions. They helped me find an amazing company to work with and helped me get ready for the trip through briefing sessions. There was a period of quiet in between being placed and gearing up to start, but it was good to know I could reach out with questions if I had any.

After landing in Barcelona and meeting the Program Coordinators I felt comfortable. It was scary to travel on my own but the transport to our accommodation was a great way to meet my fellow interns. We had a nice meal to get to know each other and a city-wide scavenger hunt in teams helped introduce us to the city at large. Our program coordinators were on hand if we had any questions, which was very reassuring. The accomodation was lovely with great facilities on site and nearby. Being able to go for a swim in the pool after working remote was very refreshing!

My internship company was a perfect match for what I wanted to gain experience in. Being able to create content to a brief and have constructive feedback at every stage really helped me feel more confident. I quickly was able to get involved in the brand and am proud of the work I delivered. Putting theory into practice has made my third year at university much more productive as I can better understand key concepts.

I could not recommend this experience enough to anyone who is interested in travelling and gaining experience in their field! Absolute Internships was the perfect summer experience and has led me to further opportunities which is improving my career.

An amazing experience

During my one month internship in Barcelona, I met amazing people, friends for life !! I was scared of not finding friends to have fun with, doing all of the activities… but it was quickly resolved ! I found amazing friends, we’re still in contacts every day even though we don’t live in the same country … Also if you’re scared because of the language don’t be ! I was the only French person in the program and everything went perfectly. You get to talk about the different cultures, mentalities…. It is actually really fun and plus you get to improve your English (and learn American or British slang ;)). You can meet people from the entire world : Mexico, London, India, Italy, United States.. and we’re all here to have an amazing experience, and make the most of it !!

Opportunities creator

My internship in Barcelona was a pivotal experience that not only enhanced my skills but also directly created opportunities for my career and entrepreneurial journey. Leading key projects during the internship sharpened my project management and strategic planning abilities, which made me a stronger candidate in job applications. The hands-on experience allowed me to build a portfolio that highlights my capability to drive projects to success, significantly boosting my professional appeal. Additionally, the connections and mentorship I gained during the internship were invaluable when I decided to start my own business. The exposure to innovative business practices in Barcelona inspired me to pursue entrepreneurship, and the skills I developed helped me confidently navigate the challenges of launching a new venture. This experience provided the foundation I needed to succeed both as a job applicant and a business owner.

I finally had my dream come true!

This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in an internship program in Barcelona that truly changed my life. From fulfilling long-held dreams to making lasting global connections, this experience was nothing short of transformative.

After 8 years of dreaming, I finally realized my goal of having an international experience. Living on a university campus in Barcelona allowed me to meet people from all over the world and practice both Spanish and English. I chose Barcelona to improve my Spanish, and while the internship was in English, which was great for practice, speaking and using Spanish daily was an incredible opportunity.

I visited six new cities and towns, including Barcelona, L’Estartit, and Carcassonne during the program trips. Afterward, I spent an additional week in Spain, exploring Madrid, Toledo, and Segovia. Barcelona has now become one of my favorite places. This program also introduced me to people from around the world. I enjoyed comparing our cultures, discovering our commonalities, and celebrating our differences. I experienced a bit of Spanish culture and glimpses of many others.

This was my first internship, and I applied my marketing skills while observing the organizational culture of a Barcelona startup. Additionally, as an Absolute Creator, I produced content for social media, including videos and photos. I made lasting global connections during my internship and with the program coordinators and fellow students, who I now proudly call friends.

A huge thank you to the Absolute Internship program for making this all possible. Without your support and opportunities, none of this would have happened.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go out and tour the city as much as you can. A month seems like a lot, but you have to take into account that you will spend a lot of time on the internship, and you won't have the whole day to be a tourist. I didn't visit several places in Barcelona because I always thought I would have time to do it later, and I ended up missing out. Even so, I managed to do several things and meet a lot of people. That's why I suggest doing this exchange during the European summer. You will have more time to visit tourist attractions, restaurants and go out with your friends, considering that it usually gets dark around ten at night, and even then, the city never sleeps.
Pros
  • Meet people around the world
  • Learn a new language
  • Gain work experience
Cons
  • My dorm was a bit far from the city center, but the metro helped a lot

Happiest Month of My Life!

Joining this program is one of the greatest decisions I’ve made in my life. I had a wonderful time in Barcelona. The experiences that I had in the internship and Barcelona were out of my expectations but in a fabulous way. I made new friends and people, got to know different cultures, and tried new things such as being an event assistant during my internship. Also, I would say the people are the highlight of my internship. The staff from Absolute Internship, the interns, people from my company, and Barcelona are amazing. This is the happiest moment that I’ve had in my life. Wish I could turn back the clock!

Internships in Barcelona

When I first heard about this program, I was thrilled to check it out. I was already spending a semester abroad and the thought of adding to that experience with an internship was something I couldn't pass up. I learned so much throughout this trip, from learning about my major in another language and learning technical words in Spanish, to the friends I made along the way. The program set us up in a wonderful residencia far enough away from the city to be away from the chaos, but close enough to all the subway systems that it only took less than 30 minutes to get anywhere worthwhile in Barcelona. I highly recommend this once in a lifetime opportunity.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Finding my way to the location of my internship was super nerve wracking as we were not close to that location and had never been to it before. We were still hesitant in the subway systems only having had a few days to figure them out. I got lucky though and happened to have another student placed at my same internship location. We were able to figure it out together and when we inevitably got lost, I had someone to figure out our way with.
Pros
  • Having other students in the same residence halls.
  • Having metro cards provided to us to get around the city.
  • Having a placement employee figure out the internships for me.
Cons
  • Having to figure out a new location without the comforts of home.
