What is your favorite travel memory?
My first trip to Asia was to Japan, marking my first real journey far from home. Immersing myself in such a distinct and captivating culture was incredibly eye-opening. Every aspect of the experience fascinated me, and it became the spark that inspired my passion for travel and ultimately led to many years living and teaching in Asia.
How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?
I founded this company to provide first-time teachers with a better experience than I had, ensuring their transition is as smooth as possible. Starting a company at a relatively young age was undoubtedly challenging, but it has brought immense fulfillment. It has shown me the joys of life and reinforced that helping others achieve their dreams through teaching abroad is one of my greatest passions.
What is the best story you've heard from a return student?
A few years ago, we had a large group preparing to head to China, and their group chat before departure was unusually active—more so than any other group we’ve had. I had a feeling they’d get along well in person, and years later, it’s incredible to see how true that was. Some have formed lifelong friendships, others are now in relationships, and many are still living their dream in China. It’s inspiring to see that, for some, teaching abroad isn’t just a gap year experience but the start of a lifelong journey.
If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?
It’s a tough choice, but I would pick China (having lived there for several years myself), mainly because it offers so much to a wide range of applicants. There are schools perfect for those seeking a gap year experience, others tailored for applicants aiming to build a teaching career, and even options for those unsure where their journey might lead. Financially, China takes great care of its teachers as well.
Exploring a country as vast and diverse as China is a rare opportunity. Its unique atmosphere sets it apart from so many other destinations, making every moment there truly unforgettable.
What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?
We take the time to truly get to know our applicants, going beyond the usual email communication. Most of our interactions happen through WhatsApp or WeChat, both in group chats and one-on-one, providing a level of personal support you won’t often find elsewhere.
Our programs offer a lot of flexibility, with applicants given the freedom to tailor their experience to suit their preferences. While teaching is a key focus, we also prioritize personal goals—both short and long term. We help applicants work towards what they want to achieve outside of teaching as well. Many past participants have transitioned from teaching to other careers in Asia, and we’re here to offer guidance and advice for making that shift.
Additionally, we provide a TEFL course as part of the process, ensuring applicants are well-prepared for their teaching journey. This certification not only builds confidence in the classroom but also opens doors to future opportunities, whether in education or other fields. Supporting our applicants every step of the way is what sets us apart.
What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?
Having the right team, all driven by the same passions and motivations, is essential. At TEFL Nomad, our top priority has always been providing a personal service and being completely transparent with our applicants. This commitment has been a cornerstone of the company since day one. By focusing on the small details and getting them right, we ensure that the bigger challenges naturally fall into place.
