Alix was raised in Montana where she spent her childhood learning to appreciate nature and the outdoors through family camping and backpacking trips, and living on her family's ranch. Wanting to pursue a career in business, she graduated with degrees in International Business and Marketing, but has been determined to let her passions be her guide so that she may have the most rewarding job possible.

What position do you hold at Kalu Yala? What has been your career path so far?

Alix: I am currently the COO for Kalu Yala Entrepreneurial Internships after transitioning from being the Business Director for the last year and a half. I started my business career after receiving my bachelor degree from the University of Montana in International Business and Marketing.

In college, I assisted in planning and producing the world's longest running wildlife film festival in Montana, and have since worked on many other large productions.

Upon graduation, I moved to California and worked in marketing for a health and wellness company until I decided I wanted some international experience; and I am now loving my life and job in Panama!

Did YOU study abroad?! If so, where and what inspired you to go?

Alix: I studied abroad for a summer in Salamanca, Spain and again in Costa Rica to attend a Spanish language school. I chose to study abroad because from a very young age I had been passionate about traveling and had a great desire to see the world, learn the Spanish language, and immerse myself into different cultures.

What country have you always wanted to visit?

Alix: Since I have been living in Panama and have had the opportunity to travel around this beautiful country for the last year and a half, Colombia was next on my travel list, and I finally made it there last fall! It is an incredible place that is full of beauty and wonderful people.

What language have you always wanted to learn and why?

Alix: Spanish. I have been intrigued by the Latin American culture and the Spanish language since a very young age; I even tried to teach it to myself when I was in elementary school. I am still enjoying taking classes and improving my speaking skills!

What unique qualities does your company possess?

Alix: Kalu Yala is unique in the sense that it provides the opportunity for hands-on learning experiences, where you are given the opportunity to pursue your interests, and provided with the resources to make your project a reality. Interns get to work amongst a group of passionate folks in various fields, but who all possess similar values and a passion for wanting to make this world a better place!
