Thank you Aihua!

I worked at Aihua for two years and I absolutely loved it. My experience at Aihua has been amazing. It's definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. (This is really not a sales pitch, it's my honest opinion). The best part was definitely coming to a new country where everything is different, the culture, the working circumstances, food and so forth, but knowing that you’ll be supported and guided every step of the way. The support that’s provided by Aihua is astonishing. There are people that's duty to help you 24/7. Either if it’s work- or personal related. We have training staff that will support you throughout your term with lesson planning, ideas, classroom management and any work-related issues you may run into. Our Foreign Affairs Officers are there to assist you with everything outside of work, from your apartment to laptops, cellphones, VISA's etc. Aihua takes really good care of their employees and make sure that the journey is safe and pleasant for you. I loved it, because I wanted a change, I wanted to experience something completely different to what I’m used to. Another highlight was working with the Chinese children and staff. They challenge you every day. It made me grow, not only as a teacher, but as a person too. The foreign teacher community that comes with Aihua is definitely something that I will always cherish. Friends turned into family within weeks. You care for, love and support each other. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a change! It changed my life and I will always be grateful for this experience. Thank you Aihua!

My first 2 months at Aihua

What an incredible experience so far! Leaving my family and friends behind and coming to a city of over 20 million people, a completely different culture, and to start down a new career path has been one of the biggest decisions I have ever made. But I can now safely say I have absolutely zero regrets. I have loved my time in Beijing and at Aihua so far. From day one the support has been top class. From the day I took my online interview I was in constant contact with Fred and the Foreign Affairs team who quickly sorted any issue I had. The day I left Ireland was overwhelming to say the least. I had so many worries running through my head. But now I look back and laugh. I settled in quickly and made new friends immediately. The Foreign Affairs team are amazing. They pretty much babysit you for the first week. They help you set up your Chinese sim, set up a bank account, register with the police, set up Wifi in your apartment. Basically anything that you think you need they are there to help. I can't imagine what I would have done without them. In fact, I do, I would have got a taxi back to the airport and went back to Ireland! It wouldn't have been possible without their help. And to this day, they are still there to help with any issue that arises.

As regards the teaching, there is a 2 week introductory training period to begin with which was a huge benefit to me. I had zero teaching experience so I was obviously nervous at the prospect of stepping into a classroom. The training team were great. Training is fun while also giving you huge tips and resources to take into the classroom. The teaching material is laid out in a structured way and is very easy to follow. While still a bit nervous, the training made day 1 in the classroom very comfortable.
I have enjoyed teaching so much. It is so rewarding and the kids have been great. Class sizes are small so it allows you time to build relationships with the students. Teaching hours are no more than 25 hrs per week and is mainly from the afternoon to evening which gives you plenty of time to socialise and go sightseeing in the morning or after work and late into the night if you wish.

If you are thinking about coming to Beijing, then I strongly suggest coming to Aihua. They provide a great platform to move to China and also begin a new career in teaching. I have no regrets and neither will you. Do it!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I did a bungee jump on one of many day trips. It was incredible! So much to see and do!

I am still here!

It has been a little over a year since I joined the Aihua team. I chose to stay, to grow in my professional field and also, I have been enjoying teaching all my classes that I can't imagine being elsewhere.

Immediately, you feel the amount of support from the team from the moment you arrive at the airport, everything is well taken care of and you feel safe and secure. Next you meet 2/ 3 amazing ladies who help you sort out your phone, WiFi and create a bank account for you. They are able to help you with EVERYTHING. Our apartments come fully furnished and we live not so far from work, so the commute is not bad at all (public transport here is amazing) Meeting and working with the Chinese staff is both rewarding and a cultural enlightenment, they will really go out of their way to make sure you feel most comfortable.

Working at Aihua gives you the best of both worlds, you get to work during the day, into the evening and you can be social in the evening (or into early hours in the morning). You meet a great load of people who come from all over the world, making your experience not only about discovering China, but also about discovering the world.

Come and work for Aihua, it's worth it!

Teaching English at Aihua

I honestly could not be happier with my experience of coming to Beijing and teaching English at Aihua. From the moment I sent my application, I couldn't believe the level of support that was offered by the company in helping with the visa application and prepare for the big move. Since arriving, when there have been any issues, the foreign affairs team are more than happy to help.

I have been working here for six weeks now and have a nice range of levels and age groups. The students are wonderful and because class sizes are small, you get to pay more attention to each student while getting to know them. The resources and training provided are very comprehensive and there is a structured course plan to follow, which makes lesson planning a little easier.

There are about 30 foreign teachers and we all live within a short walking distance for one another - so we have become quite good friends. The local people here are very friendly too and I have never felt safer in a foreign country. There is never a dull moment!

What was your funniest moment?
I often see people on the foot path just singing karaoke on an app on their phone...

Great first teaching job

Aihua is a fantastic school to begin your teaching career in China. The benefits are great and the support is unbeatable. As a non Chinese speaker who would otherwise be unable to even order a phone contract, the Aihua team are vital in the the first few months of moving here. Overall, they are a great company to work for.

They have a great attitude to learning. Here emphasis is put in the kids having fun while learning and not just drilling grammar points from a textbook. We play a variety of games and use teams to instil a sense of competition on fun into the learning process. It makes for very enjoyable and rewarding classes.

Living in China is also great. There are so many cultural and historic things to do in the capital. You’ll find yourself longing to do a never ending list of activities right on your doorstep.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I experienced was the roads. Drivers are more spontaneous here in China.
