Alliance for Research and Conservation in the Amazon
Why choose Alliance for Research and Conservation in the Amazon?
Mission
ARCAmazon aims to increase the value of the Amazon, to conserve and protect it, and to connect people with the rainforest. ARCAmazon achieves its mission by bringing people to the rainforest and sharing the rainforest with the world while promoting sustainable development and conservation in the Peruvian Amazon.
Purpose
Focusing primarily on Peru's Las Piedras Watershed, a biodiversity hotspot, ARCAmazon works to protect a 4,460-hectare ecotourism concession of strategically important rainforest. This land acts as a buffer for uncontacted tribes, native communities, and primary rainforest against unsustainable development and deforestation pressure.
Programs/Services Provided
ARCAmazon runs three main initiatives: Las Piedras Amazon Center (LPAC), Amazon Academy, and the Las Piedras Corridor Initiative (LPCI). Together, these efforts advance conservation and sustainable development in the Piedras watershed.
